Hypocrticial eco fascists

So Anthony Watts at WUWT has spotted that members of 10:10 have guilty pleasures. Guilty pleasures that mean a lot of CO2 is used to provide them with their pleasure. Shortly after publicising these seemingly innocent facts, the link to the team member’s bio pages disappeared from the main page. The bios are are still available via deep linking (typing in the full URL) rather than navigating from the home page. This has all the hall marks of someone who is embarrassed about these facts because it shows them up for being hypocritical when their whole campaign is built around being eco to the extreme. Extreme as in extremist. Extremist as in terrorists who blow up people who don’t believe in the same aims as themselves.

Anyway, they missed a bit. The details are still available via the global 10:10 site. Select a country like the US, then find the About link, the click on The Team. Or click here.

For your pleasure, here is a selection of their guilty pleasures besides Franny Armstrong liking out of season Blueberries.

Lizzie Gillett – Out of season strawberries or blueberries.
Ben Margolis – Heating in the winter.
Julika Niehaus – Long hot showers.
Tony Lowes – High powered cars.
Daniel Nemet – I love to travel and therefore I fly often.

More available at the different country’s pages. If they are still available when you read this.

It’s been covered just about everywhere as a PR own goal by the green brigade (I like that as it equates them with the Red Brigades which is apt) so I won’t repeat the same stuff here.

Just a couple of points to raise from some of the publcity for it and their apology.

First, from their apology.

“With climate change becoming increasingly threatening, and decreasingly talked about in the media, we wanted to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh. We were therefore delighted when Britain’s leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis – writer of Blackadder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill and many others – agreed to write a short film for the 10:10 campaign. Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn’t and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.”

I don’t know how anyone can say that this was supposed to be funny. Yes it was a bit OTT in the way the blood and guts got splattered around and in a true comedy probably would be funny. But this is a political (and there can be no doubt that it is political) and so comedy doesn’t come into it.

Anyway, they say many thought it extremely funny but that some didn’t and because of the minority they were pulling the video. Somehow I doubt it very much. It’s not the minority, it’s the majority who viewed it for the vile facists propaganda that it is.

Secondly, from the publicity for the video, a quote from one of the child actors in the Guardian.

Jamie Glover, the child-actor who plays the part of Philip and gets blown up, has similarly few qualms: “I was very happy to get blown up to save the world.”

I’ve heard this phrase used many times, but usually by people from an Arabic background. I never thought I would hear it from a white western person, let alone a boy. I thought it was only the Angolan rebels who trained kids to join in their fight as child soldiers. I thought it was only the Nazis who indoctrinated the young in order to brainwash into believing that Jews were animals and only fit to be exterminated. But then the fascist authoritarian left who also believe smoking is a sin on par with taking crack cocaine think it right to use children in their fight against smoking.

I hope that Jamie Glover does not grow up still thinking that to save the world from global warming he would be right to blow someone up. No pressure on the greenies to explain themselves.

Reply from Sony in response to my email to them asking them if they were happy being associated with the 10:10 campaign.

Thank you for your email concerning the video released by the 10:10 climate change campaign group. Sony has supported the 10:10 climate change campaign because we share its objective to reduce carbon emissions. However, we strongly condemn the “No Pressure” video, which was conceived, produced and released by 10:10 entirely without the knowledge or involvement of Sony.

The company considers the video to be ill-conceived and tasteless. We also believe this video risks undermining the work of the many thousands of members of the public, schools and universities, local authorities and many businesses, of which Sony is one, who support the long-term aims of the 10:10 movement and who are actively working towards the reduction of carbon emissions.

As a result we have taken the decision to disassociate ourselves from 10:10 at this time.

Yours sincerely,
